I have previously written that Lyfe Jennings is one of my favorite artists, but never wrote a post saying why. Today I'm giving you reasons why I love Lyfe Jennings and his music. I hope this will encourage you to listen to his music.
First off, Lyfe Jennings is an R&B singer from Ohio (we have the same hometown). I feel as though each song Lyfe has written or sung, he has put his experiences, knowledge and heart into the lyrics. Songs such as Statistics, Must Be Nice and S.E.X. have deep messages to them. First, Lyfe's song Statistics teaches women how to expose the wrong men from the good men. As Lyfe demonstrates, 90% of all men are unstable and only 10% are really good. I took notes. Secondly, Must Be Nice gives both men and women an insight on valuing his or her own relationship by giving examples of how nice it is to have someone who cares and loves you. Must Be Nice is a classic song. Lastly, S.E.X. is a song targeted to young women. I used to believe that the message was directed towards just virgins but it can be applied to both sexually active and non. The message that Lyfe is trying to give in the song is that you should think before you have sex and not fall into the peer pressure a guy will give you to have sex. This song played a major role in my upbringing. My dad loved it so much that he instilled it into my head. I believe this song is part of the reason I am still a virgin at the age of 19.
Secondly, Lyfe has been through some crazy situations dealing with anything between greedy babymamas to jail to regretting being in love. He uses those gained experiences to teach and inspire others to learn from what he has been through. There aren't many artists left in the industry who speak about their experiences. All you really hear these days is sex, cars and money. Things most of us cannot relate to. Even artists who have been around are conforming to this type of music just to get airplay. But Lyfe Jennings hasn't. He still sings about core values and morals that we all need to hear. I am eternally grateful for him not changing his music to fit in. As I said before, S.E.X was a song I listened to growing up. I have passed down that song to future generations in my family once they have reached "of age." I hope to continue to be able to share Lyfe's music with others because he gives a great message.
Lyfe's not perfect nor are we. But his music is perfect and all the advice I really need.
