"Was I ever an option?"
If you're unfamiliar with RaVaughn's song, Best Friend, just click the link and be amazed. I'm a huge fan of RaVaughn's music and very excited for the release of the official video to this amazing song. In this song, RaVaughn sings about being in love with her best friend who doesn't realize her love for him. The video (directed by her sister Rhyon Brown and Talia Myers) goes along perfectly with her song. Why hasn't it reached a million views yet? (Disclaimer: The idea(s) stated in this post are of my own. Others may interpret this video differently.)In the opening scene of the video, we see rose pedals, candles and RaVaughn in water. It then turns to a fantasy RaVaughn has of her best friend, played by the sexy hunk Justin (remember him from Baldwin Hills?) and her on outings. The first outing they're seen sitting on top of the "Welcome to LAX" statue (as seen in the behind scenes videos), eating and laughing. Justin and RaVaughn lock eyes and go in for the kiss. The next scene shows them getting a run in together when Justin grabs RaVaughn and they fall down. The moment is so cute and perfect for the kiss they share. I mean if there wasn't a kiss at the end of that I'd be yelling "WHYYYY?" The last outing we see RaVaughn crying alone when Justin sits down and places his around her to comfort her and wipe her tears. Yet another moment they share a kiss. Yet another moment Justin should realize she loves him more than a best friend right? Possibly.
The scene goes into RaVaughn in the pool of pedals, confessing her love for Justin. She pushes him and the scenarios are now flipped from her fantasies to reality. In the first scenario, after Justin wipes RaVaughn's mouth, he doesn't lock eyes with her. He doesn't realize her love for him as he looks away and she stares at him with googly love eyes (I've been there). Instead of taking that chance to kiss her on their run, he lies beside her, not realizing she wanted the kiss to happen. In the last scenario, Justin kisses RaVaughn's head and rubs her shoulder for comfort. He still doesn't see her love for him. In the closing scenes, we see RaVaughn trying to stay afloat in it all. It represents her inability to withstand him not seeing they should be more than just friends. The video goes perfect with this song.
Catch RaVaughn on 106 & Park on Tuesday, October 8, when her video will premiere.
Until then, watch it below :)
