Synopsis of Boomerang - Lyfe Jennings (meaning behind the video)

"Breaking a woman's heart is like throwing a boomerang. It'll come right back to you again."
One of my favorite artists is back with a vengeance, an upcoming album and a new single for the ladies entitled, "Boomerang." In this song, Lyfe reminisces on the hurt he caused in past relationships with women that has come back to haunt him. The video is a different story though. It may be confusing until you take in the lyrics. But if you still didn't understand, that's what this post is for! Lyfe has been known to write songs that paint a picture of real life situations such as Hypothetically, S.E.X. and Statistics. I wasn't surprised that Boomerang was any different. I loved it. Now into the meaning behind the video ;)

The video opens with Lyfe's name in white letters with a black background. A woman with beautiful curly hair and nerd glasses is seen walking into what looks like a club. By the way she's walking, you can tell she's pretty shy. She walks by two mean girls (one who is extremely jealous of her) and gets knocked over into a guy. They all laugh except the main girl. Perfect timing for these lyrics, "It's funny how we're so quick to laugh. When it's someone else but then when it happens to us, the joke is never as funny as we all thought it was." As the scene goes on, a guy asks the main girl to dance and she accepts. It was a cruel joke set up by the "hater" to embarrass the main girl. She pours flour (at least I believe that is) on the girl's hair and takes pictures of it. Hurt and embarrassed, the main girl fled and a pink Easter bunny walks in (yay for symbols!). The pink bunny gives the "hater" a taste of her own medicine and does exactly what she did to the main girl, back to her. It isn't so funny this time.

Three years later into the next situation, we see the main girl getting abused by her boyfriend when the pink bunny appears again. When her boyfriend goes to hit her, she stares in shock as the pink bunny pulls him out and throws him out. The police show up and the boyfriend is explaining that a pink bunny interfered in their fight. When the police ask the main girl about it she looks as though she's saying, "I don't know what that is. I don't know what you're talking about." As she escorts the police out, we notice a bunny tattoo on her right arm, holding boomerangs.

All along the pink bunny was a symbol of strength for her. She is the pink bunny. When bad things happened to her, she made sure she stood up for herself and got revenge on those who hurt her. When her boyfriend threw her down, she stood up for herself and instead of allowing him to put his hands on her, she kicked his ass and threw HIM out. In the club, the main girl got revenge on the "hater" and took pictures of her at her lowest point. The bunny is a symbol of karma in this video. The moral of the video is when a woman is hurt, she doesn't want to be friends, she's gonna want revenge.

I can't wait to see what else Lyfe has to give us! His upcoming album, Lucid, will be available in stores on October 8th, 2013. Be sure to go out and purchase it!! But in the meantime, download Boomerang on Itunes and check out the video on VEVO. Links below :)
