One regular Monday of work became a memory of a lifetime. I love my zoo! I've said this 1000 times before but on June 23rd, I wasn't feeling it. In fact, I was praying it would pour down raining as hard as it could so I could go home. On Mondays, my zoo allows free admission to citizens of the county my zoo is apart of. It is usually on of the busiest days of the week. Along with Monday being a busy day, there was way too much heat! I wasn't feeling the heat and my day was entirely too slow. It was 84 degrees outside, but it felt like it was 100 degrees. To make it worse, I couldn't find my Bermuda shorts that day so I had to wear long khaki pants in the heat. You should know that once the sun rose, I was praying that it would rain long AND hard, After enduring 5 hours and 30 minutes in the sun, dark clouds began to approach. Within ten minutes of the clouds arriving, I was asked had been to pack up my cart and head to the gift shop. Soon the clouds began to sprinkle rain and I continued on my way to the gift shop. I wasn't afraid at all. I cheered and awaited the rain. It is not that I wanted to go home, its just that I wanted the hell out of the sun. Once I reached the gift shop along with my coworker KILF (disguising her name for safety), we both proceeded to speed walk into the south gift shop for protection. Inside of the gift shop we began to put down out bags and put away our stuff until it began to pour down raining and thundering. I had never been at the zoo when it began to storm. Out of the fear of being struck by lightening, KILF and I decided to stay where we were. We really didn't have a choice. Our supervisor, Kris, insisted we must stay until the storm blew over. I didn't mind at all. As I said before, I just needed OUT of the sun. I stood by the window and watched as the rain fell, angrily hitting the ground. Meanwhile, Kris went to the back room to eat her lunch due to the rain making it hard for us to leave the store. She was able to eat peacefully. At least until the power went out, causing the customers who were still in the store to panic even more than before. The storm knocked out all of the power in the zoo and it totally looked like the end of the world outside. We immediately tried to close the double doors of the store (forgetting they are electronically operated). It was frustrating until we realized how funny of a predicament we were in. Stuck in a dark gift shop on a busy Monday in the middle of the afternoon. We were all stuck there for an hour of the rain. I can't explain how much I appreciate days that it rains! Leaving the sun is always a good thing for me ;)
