Purchasing Textbooks For College Without Breaking Your Back

Heading off to college or continuing your education? Well here are a few tips (in addition to some First Year College Tips) for purchasing textbooks to preparing for a successful semester in the Fall (or whenever you may be reading this post hehe).

They're significantly less expensive than any bookstore especially for renting books (I rent mine and purchase those that are needed specifically to my major). Plus it's free shipping both ways with packaging and shipping labels included. If at any time you decide to keep your books, you just pay a small fee! The best part is that you don't have to go through selling your books back at the end of the year! You should definitely check them out. You can also Rent Back your books that you purchase. You get paid every time your book is rented. Click the link or picture for more information.

I love this website for its rewards when you buy books. For every dollar you spend with eCampus, you earn 2 points towards your reward. Earning points are easy if you use social network sites. You earn 50 points just by joining eCampus's website. The rewards vary from Free Shipping off next purchase to $25 off your book purchase of $150 or more. By clicking the link above or the picture, you will save 5% on textbooks, rentals, college clothing, or eBooks. Just choose what you want and enter coupon code BELOYAL at checkout! 5% may not seem like a lot now, but once youre in college and you're broke, you'll miss that 5% you could have saved. Trust me. eCampus also buys back books that you have purchased. In my opinion, I feel like you're being cheated out of money by selling it back.

It seems the prices are always down when books aren't in need and up when they are needed. I had a lot of problems with this site but I did successfully buy two books from them that were fairly new in used condition. Its not a scam. Textbooks.com is real. Before purchasing from here (if you do), make sure you shop around and compare prices. This like my least favorite of the list.

This website is very informative. Not only are you allowed to buy books from Chegg, rent from Chegg, and sell books back to Chegg, you will receive helpful tips through your email from Chegg. Their tips are usually good study tips and classroom tips. They will even email you discounts and coupons. I love their logo too (Hint: the chick breaking out its egg shell).

Other useful tips when purchasing books:
  1. Each website I have listed sends you coupons through your email.
  2. Do not feel pressured into buying the highest priced book. If you're not comfortable shopping online, see if your college offers rentals. Also check to see if your school offers a bulletin board dedicated to posting posts about books for sell by other students. It may be a whole lot cheaper.
  3. Check your school's bulletins for "buy back days." They may pay you more money for your books than these websites. I do not recommend selling them back to these sites (except CampusBookRentals, you get paid buddy). Try finding a student on campus who may need your book for cheap.
Disclaimer: I found these websites on my own. No one has paid me or asked me to write about these websites. I want to help others who are cheap about buying college textbooks and want to save money. I didn't have anyone there to guide me through this process so I wanted to share my experience and help some other college student. If I can help one person find a textbook for less then my life is complete :)
