I was grateful to be one of the 13 fans to hear this amazing mixtape before its released to the rest of the world on June 7th. Here's a link to my video I made for Ash K: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPbqZ5st2h0 - Anyway, I wrote out the description to each song in my own personal view and my favorite lyrics from each song. I listen to this mixtape every morning faithfully. I hope you enjoy and please share (preferably to conjure up new fans.. oh & Ash K!! I'd love for her to see this).
Bonnie & Clyde '13 (Produced by Jahlil Beats): "All we got is trust. Focused on just us. Cause we just got that kind of love. Girls getting at you, you tell em fall back. Dudes holla at me, I ain't hearing that. We don't do no talking. What we got is private. We just got that kind of love." This song is about the love her and her guy has: its like Bonnie and Clyde. He holds her down and builds her up when others try to break her down. Its them against the world like Bonnie and Clyde.
In My Feelings: "& boy, you put me through a lot. Should I be with you? Hell. Probably not. Because every day is the same shit we going back and forth about a different bitch." This song is the popular WorldStarHipHop (or maybe Facebook, definitely Youtube) cover of Diced Pineapples. The first and second verse along with the first hook is the female's perspective of a bad relationship. She feels she probably shouldn't be with him because she gave him her heart and trust and he fucked over her still. The third verse and second hook is sung from the male's perspective of the relationship. He believes she should let it all go and stay with him. She's just tripping. This is soooo relevant to many relationships in this generation. Take a listen here; its not the full version mind you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skp5EJEm8HM
Bad Boy (Remix): "Monogamy or whatever they call it. I'm starting to think dont exist because, seems like every dude I know, got a main girl and a side chick, but pardon me for jugding you I guess its all that I'm exposed to." Ash K put in AMAZING vocals on this one. Every word spoke to me. Even though I heard it on youtube first, I can replay this over and over without getting tired of it. Anyway, Ash K is describing a guy she's met that doesn't hide the fact that he's a bad boy. The first verse describes how the dudes she dates end up being dudes she hates. In verse two, she describes the guy who breaks hearts and plays girls and how the girl reacts to his actions. You can listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZJcctCpNyQ
Power Trip: "Would you believe me if I said I'm fed up, over the way that you treat me? Would you believe me if I said I gave up? Baby, I'm done." In the first verse, Ash K tells the story of how the love got lost between her and her guy. She describes how the dude cheating. He begins to write her love songs when she leaves him after she gave up on him. In the second verse, she got tired of dealing with other women with him. So now he's tryna act right. "You're all in your feelings. I ain't hearing that."
Same Game: "Would you contemplate to stay and give my ass another try? If you was me and I was you, would you have stayed with me this long? Would you still hold me down even though I do you wrong? Hell naw. You'll be gone like the sun at night. & you'd just nickname me Left cause we would never be Right." This song is one of the realist songs I've heard in awhile. This should be a girl's theme song. Ash K samples a portion of an argument in the 2001 movie, Babyboy, when Jody tries to explain to Yvette why he cheats over the Blame Game by Kanye West beat. Ash K sings about how she play the same games as her dude and maybe he will feel her pain and her tears.
Same Old Song: "I bet it hurts to see how I have come along. I bet it hurts to see how I have proved you wrong. You're the same old song." Her vocals on this song is beautiful. This song is dedicated to an ex who tried to bring her down and say her talent wouldn't get her this far. She tells him that she's more accomplished than he thinks and now he can take a shot every time he hears her playing in the club.
